Gluten Free
At KB’s we’d listened to our customers and their complaints. The one that kept popping up was that certain family members couldn't eat KB's because they either had coeliac disease or were gluten intolerant. So KB (Kim Buckley) and an equally excited small team opened a dinky wee Hornby store as a KB’s Express. It was from this store the gluten-free range was baked and re-baked for 18 months until the recipes were just right. KB’s aspiration was to have a gluten-free option indistinguishable from that of the normal (for lack of a better word) KB’s range. Now this has been achieved and he and the rest of the team are ready to take the gluten-free range to the world (well, New Zealand wide for now). We know you will love it.
GLUTEN FREE
What’s it all about?
- Gluten is a protein which is found in wheat. Your tummy doesn't need it and can find hard to digest (it clogs you up)
- Imagine gluten acting like gum in food, binding everything together
- For the last 50 years gluten has been slipped into a 'whopping' amount of our foods. It is found in everything that is made from wheat (that's a heck of a lot of food)
- We don't need gluten grains in our food, they can easily be replaced with other grains such as buckwheat, millet and quinoa - it's not that hard and so much better for you
COULD GLUTEN BE BUGGING YOU?
- One in 10 of us are affected by gluten (that's a lot of people!)
- In NZ, that means 450,000 of us are being bugged by 'gluten' and millions more are affected by gluten worldwide
- Many of us feel crook nowadays and a lot more than we used to, have you ever wonder why this is so?
- If susceptible, gluten could ultimately damage your gut - when this happens it's called Coeliac Disease. It's common, and one in 100 of us will progress onto Coeliac Disease if we are not pro-active
- Why not nip gluten in the butt before gluten bites you?
WHAT ARE SOME SYMPTOMS?
- Gluten can cause your gut damage - do you find your tummy is often unsettled and you sit on the throne longer than you should...
- Gluten can affect your skin - ever had an allergy diagnosed and 'treated' but it just keeps coming back... Do your children often complain of a sore tummy and are fussy eaters? Have you noticed tricky behaviour with no real apparent cause? Agreed, this can be "normal" kiddie stuff but it can sometimes be attributed to gluten intolerance...
- Do you suffer from heartburn and indigestion?
- Particularly for the women, do you often feel exhausted but simply put it down to working hard or running around after our children/ our men/ our bosses or all of the above (fatigue and low iron levels are a significant symptom of gluten intolerance in ladies)...
The short version is – have yourself or your children properly tested, click on the link to Dr Rodney Ford, also known as the gluten-free guru, to find out how best to go about this.
